The impact of California’s mandated reductions in greenhouse gas will be reviewed at the upcoming Solano Economic Development Corp. meeting in Fairfield.
Steve Heminger, executive director of the nine-county Metropolitan Transportation Commission will be the keynote speaker at the 7:30 a.m. Aug. 26 event at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fairfield. To comply with new state legislations the commission has initiated policies to reduce greenhouse gasses by as much as 10 percent by the year 2035.
Mr. Heminger and a panel of local business executives will discuss the impact of new state legislation on local business.
Michael Ammann, president of the Solano EDC, said that the mandated air quality reductions will result in many business plan changes for area companies that have fleets of vehicles.
“It’s safe to say that these mandated reductions have pretty much fallen below the radar,” Mr. Ammann said, “but they are here and they are real and they will affect lots of businesses in Solano.”
Mr. Ammann said greenhouse gas reduction is just one of the many new regulations that are included in Senate Bill 375 and Assembly Bill 32.
“When the government signed these two bills we ended up with laws that impact virtually every phase of life here in Solano County. We at Solano EDC just want to make certain that our county businesses and residents are aware that these changes are here, and they will require some planning,” Mr. Ammann said.
The housing industry is one area that will face new challenges.
“For example,” Mr. Ammann said, “Beginning in January every new home in California will have to have a sprinkler system – not for the yard but inside the home.”
The greenhouse gas reduction meeting is part of the monthly series of events sponsored by Solano Economic Development Corp., designed to air issues that affect the business community.

Torch of India, a Solano County Indian restaurant, opened a second location in downtown Santa Rosa last week.
