Manufacturers added to Book of Lists to reflect growing local industry
NORTH BAY – Despite the perception manufacturing in the North Bay dried up with the telecom bust, the industry's small and mid-sized firms are flourishing along the 101 corridor. In recognition of this key sector in our region, the Business Journal is publishing a list of manufacturers in the North Bay, the first in 10 years.
Focusing on small to mid-sized companies, the Business Journal surveyed companies with a wide range of specialties to find out how many people they employ, company revenues and the length of time the business has been in the North Bay.
Using information gathered by Dick Herman, who runs the manufacturing consortium 101MFG, and data in the Business Journal’s archives and on the LaborMarketInfo website, a number of companies were identified in the North Bay and included on the list.
101MFG, which started as an arm of the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce, serves manufacturing companies throughout Marin, Sonoma, Napa and Solano counties. Its goal is to have each of its members obtain the industry’s highest stamp of approval for quality. [See "Manufacturers on ISO push," Aug. 16, p. 1.]
Mr. Herman also said the group hopes to increase awareness of the industry and its economic impact on the North Bay.
The companies that responded employ roughly 3,000 people in the North Bay and cover manufacturers of medical equipment, component manufacturers, wine industry manufacturer support and aerospace equipment.
