Avia hotel to become Andaz Napa

NAPA -- Hyatt Hotels Corp. (NYSE: H) said that beginning this summer it would be "re-flagging" the Avia hotel as Andaz Napa.

The new name for the 141-room downtown Napa hotel is part of an effort to develop the new brand internationally, bringing the total number of Andaz hotels to eight in the U.S., according to Chicago-based Hyatt.

The Avia hotel in Savannah, Ga., will undergo the same re-branding. The ninth location will be Andaz Amsterdam, set to open in Prinsengracht, Netherlands. Local architecture and design teams will be brought in to help redesign both the Napa and Savannah properties.

"Andaz provides exceptional experiences in refined, yet casual hotel environments, which are have unique touches and a modern, simple approach to service and style," Chuck Floyd, Hyatt's chief operating officer for North America, said in a statement. "Andaz hotels are a distinctive part of the neighborhoods in which they’re located, and the addition of these two hotels to Napa and Savannah will be a great complement to the growing number of hotels in places where our guests want to travel."

Prior to its conversion to an Andaz hotel, California architecture and design firm Bishop Pass will complete some renovations to Avia Napa. When it is reflagged in a few months, the first Andaz hotel in Northern California, according to Hyatt.

In keeping with the Andaz brand, "the renovation of the hotel’s lobby to a lounge will pay tribute to the local area with its design inspired by the region," according to the company. The hotel’s restaurant will also showcase a "Napa-to-table" philosophy, sourcing its produce directly from Northern California ranches, orchards, mills and farms.

Events and meetings at Andaz Napa will be able to accommodate groups of up to 130 in three venues.

Last year, Hyatt purchased the Avia as part of an $802 million deal that included 24 hotels and related assets from LodgeWorks, the former parent company.
