Site preparation for College of Marin's new Academic Center continues with the demolition of outdated buildings, including the Administrative Center, Olney Hall, Business and Management Center, and Harlan Center. Demolition was set to begin June 3 and continue through Aug. 9 on the Kentfield campus. The 43,000-square-foot building has been designed by the award-winning firms Mark Cavagnero Associates and TLCD Architecture. The project is being paid for with Measure C funds and the cost of construction is estimated at about $23 million. The total project cost, including planning, architectural and engineering design, insurance, inspection, testing, and field supervision, is estimated at about $32 million. St. Helena Hospital Foundation’s 23rd annual golf tournament featuring PGA legend Johnny Miller took place at Silverado Country Club on May 20. Charitable proceeds from the event totaled $55,000 -- a 10 percent increase from the previous year – benefiting Intensive Care Unit upgrades at St. Helena Hospital Napa Valley.Wine
Northern Sonoma County’s Wine Road announced that it is making it easier than ever to plan a trip to wine country with the launch of its newest online tool, Wine Road Concierge Service. The online service takes the leg work out of arranging a trip to the area by creating a detailed itinerary with recommendations for visitors to make the most out of their trip. Whether it’s a first-time visit to wine country or a stay for a special event, by providing lodging preferences, wine knowledge and priority information through an online form, the Wine Road Concierge Service creates an itinerary specific to every visitor. The concierge program is available on Wine Road’s website, wineroad.com, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
California Wine Grape Growers Foundation awarded eight high school seniors $29,000 in college scholarships, including a special two-year scholarship to a student with a serious hearing-loss disability, and a number of awards in the North Bay.Through generous donations and participation by California Association of Winegrape Growers member donations fund scholarships each year to children of vineyard employees. CWGGF scholarship assistance provides two $8,000, four-year scholarships to any University of California or California State University campus, four $2,000 scholarships for California Community Colleges campus, and one $1,000 Robert N. Miller Scholarship. Both four-year scholarship recipients were from the North Bay, with Carina Ocampo of Philo and Laura Onate Solis of Clearlake receiving $8000 each. Daniel Muniz Madrigal of Ukiah also received $2,000.
