SANTA ROSA - Stephen Steady, MD, a gastroenterologist in private practice in Petaluma, was named the new president of the Sonoma County Medical Association, which supports and advocates for more than 1,000 local physicians, the association announced today.
Dr. Steady will serve as president of the association through June 2014. He replaces Dr. Walt Mills, a family practice physician with Kaiser Permanente.
Dr. Steady has practiced medicine in Sonoma County since 2001. A Petaluma native, he received his MD from Creighton University and completed both a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. For a decade after completing his fellowship in 1991, Dr. Steady practiced in San Francisco, primarily in the liver transplant program at CPMC.
Since returning to Petaluma in 2001, Dr. Steady has opened his own practice, GI Healthworks on North McDowell Boulevard, and has served as a board member for both the Petaluma Healthcare District and Sonoma County Medical Association. He was also involved in establishing the Meritage Independent Practice Association, a local physician group based in Novato.
Three other new officers will join Dr. Steady on the Medical Association board of directors: Dr. Robert Nied, president-elect; Dr. Francesca Manfredi, treasurer; and Dr. Regina Sullivan, secretary. The other newly elected members of the board are Dr. Richard Powers, West County district, and Dr. Jan Sonander and Dr. Jeff Sugarman, Santa Rosa district. More than 20 local physicians serve on the Association's board.
