Sutter breaks ground on medical office complex

Santa Rosa Surgery Center, Surgery Care Affiliates, Santa Rosa Orthopedics to move to new 80,000-square-foot facility

    SANTA ROSA — Sutter Health and Hammes Company broke ground Friday on a three-story, 80,000-square-foot medical office building adjacent to the  forthcoming $284 million new Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa.

    The facility, which will be owned and developed by Wisconsin-based Hammes, will house both Sutter Pacific Medical Foundation physicians and a host of other health care tenants. Anchor tenants, thus far, include: Santa Rosa Surgery Center, a local outpatient provider that is a joint venture between local physicians; Surgery Care Affiliates and Sutter Health network, and Santa Rosa Orthopedics.

    Occupancy is expected to begin in September 2014. The complex, according to Sutter and Hammes, will house additional physician tenants in ob/gyn, gastroenterology, urologists and general surgeons.

    “When the new campus opens next fall, it will provide quality and excellent care to the region through advanced imaging technology, electronic medical records and outpatient services,” said Mike Purvis, chief administration officer for Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa. “Sutter selected Hammes Company to be our real estate development partner because their health care industry leadership provides a keen understanding of the critical importance of the new camps to our mission.”

    The new medical office building, at Mark West Springs Road and U.S. Highway 101, is one of several new facilities in the works in Sonoma County.

    Kaiser Permanente is seeking land in southwest Santa Rosa for medical office facilities, although a time-frame for when that might occur depends on when Kaiser’s corporate board signs off on the plans.

    Last year, Sutter revealed it would shift much of its outpatient efforts into a 19,000-square-foot space at the Landmark Executive Center on Airway Drive in Northern Santa Rosa, part of a $13 million effort to consolidate services into one location. That included services that were part of the Warrack Campus and the Sutter Women’s Health Center on Steele Lane, which added to 46,000 square feet of already leased space on Airway Drive.

      And thus completes the gutting of downtown Santa Rosa of all professionals–as the legal profession has moved north towards the court facility on Cleveland, and the medical profession will now move North to this new office space.

      So, what to do with 10′s of thousands of already vacant, and soon-to-be vacant commercial / office space in the downtown corridor — downtown/Sonoma Avenue?
      Has the City made plans for this?
