Olive Oil

Nearly 100 California olive oils from 38 producers were judged in the 2014 Napa Valley Olive Oil Competition. The competition, which is hosted by the Napa County Fair & Fireworks, awarded best of show, best of class, plus gold, silver, and bronze medals, which will be on display during the annual fair July 4th. Best of Show was awarded to Calistoga Olive Oil Company for their Organic 1441 extra virgin organic olive oil of medium intensity; Dry Creek Olive Company for their Mediterranean Blend extra virgin olive oil of medium intensity; Il Fiorello Olive Oil Company for their Jalapeno-Lime co-milled olive oil; Moonshadow Grove for their Ascolano extra virgin organic olive oil of medium intensity; Olive Pit for their Anna’s Oil extra virgin olive oil of delicate intensity from a small producer; Pepi Family for the Pepi Family Extra Virgin Olive Oil of medium intensity from a small producer; and Sons of Sicily for their Oil of the Olive extra virgin olive oil of medium intensity. Environmental consulting firm SCS Engineers has been chosen to complete a waste characterization study (WCS) for the Sonoma County Waste Management Agency. SCS’s findings will be used to evaluate the impact of mandates set forth by the State, and to help monitor the progress of the countywide Integrated Waste Management Plan toward reducing the volume of waste sent to landfills. SCS’s scope of work for the project will include waste sorting and sampling, characterizing and recording waste sample components, and noting unique or unusual characteristics from samples.Cider

Sonoma Cider’s market presence continues to expand rapidly as evidenced by eight new distribution agreements signed in the last month, bringing the total to 24 partners in 14 markets since the brand launched in November 2013. The company has recently added the following distributors in new states: Hensley & Company in Arizona; Elite Brands in Colorado; Bernick’s in Minnesota; and Johnson Brothers in Wisconsin. Plus additional partners have been added in California: Markstein Beverage in Sacramento; Figueroa Mountain Brewery in Santa Barbara; Haralambos Beverage in Los Angeles; and Craft Beer Guild in San Diego.Tourism

The Santa Rosa Symphony announced that Viking Cruises is underwriting its 2014-2015 Classical Concert Series with a generous pledge of $125,000. The Viking Cruises Classical Concert Series is the first named sponsorship for these concerts in the Symphony’s 86-year history; the series of 28 performances begins October 11, 12 and 13, 2014 in Weill Hall at Sonoma State University’s Green Music Center, where the Santa Rosa Symphony is resident orchestra.
