SANTA ROSA -- Global security and aerospace giant Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) on Wednesday announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Santa Rosa-based optical-coating producer Deposition Sciences, Inc.
The transaction is expected to close within 30 days. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
DSI, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ohio-based Advanced Lighting Technologies, has approximately 85 employees at its 144,000-square-foot factory at 3300 Coffey Ln. in Santa Rosa.
The Lockheed announcement did not specify plans for those employees. Lee Bartolomei, president and CEO of DSI, could not be reached for comment.
DSI offers four coating product lines for commercial and government applications, designed for a wide variety of uses in coating metals, lenses, lighting and mirrors. The company stresses durability of its coatings, and began with a project to create a long-lived optical film for application in high-temperature halogen lighting and other lighting systems.
Maryland-based Lockheed Martin employs about 113,000 worldwide and had net sales of $45.4 billion in 2013. The company expects no change to its material operations connected to the acquisition.
