Brett Martinez of Redwood Credit Union wins Latino Business Leadership Award
Notable Quote: “Technology in financial services has been a big game-changer over the past few years, and I think keeping up with the rapid speed of change will continue to be important - giving members more options and more convenience of being able to do their banking whenever and wherever they want through mobile and online services...”
Other things about me...
As a successful professional, what were the biggest obstacles you faced and how did you overcome them?
“When I was first starting out, balancing work, education, and family, while staying mentally and physically fit was definitely a challenge. It often still is! Learning to take a deep breath and focus on what’s most important is key. Constantly reprioritizing. And reminding myself that I need to take good care of myself in order to take better care of others.”
Who was your most important mentor? And tell us a little bit about that person?
“My mother, who was a credit union CEO, was definitely a huge influence on my career choice, as well as my work ethic.”
Quick Takes
Words that best describe you…Driven, focused, honest, passionate
Current reading… “The Leadership Challenge” by Kouzes and Posner. It’s one I keep going back to, as it’s a great leadership model, and it fits well with Redwood Credit Union’s culture. In fact, we also use it in our leadership training at RCU.
Most want to meet…“Actually, I love meeting and talking to our members. Listening to their stories, their needs and challenges - helps me understand better how we can make a difference in their lives.”
Stress relievers…Spending time with my family. Any type of exercise. Relaxing at the ocean or a lake.
