Jackson Family Wines promotes Tigner, Reimers

Jackson Family Wines, one of the world’s largest vintners, has promoted top managers Rick Tigner and Hugh Reimers.

A quarter-century veteran of the Santa Rosa-based company, Tigner was promoted to CEO, reporting to Barbara Banke, proprietor and chairman of the board, and Don Hartford, vice chairman. Tigner has been president since 2010.

“Rick is well prepared for this new opportunity, given his tenure within the industry and the tremendous progress we’ve seen under his leadership during the past five years,” Banke said. “He’s a terrific team builder and a force for quality at all levels of our business. He’s dedicated to making Jackson Family Wines a premiere wine company.”

Tigner started at Jackson (jacksonfamilywines.com) in 1991 in sales. He was named executive vice president in 2001 and promoted to president less than a decade later.

He also is on the boards of directors of Vinexpo, one of the wine industry’s global trade organizations, and the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which raises money for Parkinson’s disease research.

Reimers moved into the president role, moving up from the chief operating officer role he’s held since 2011. He joined the company in August 2009. He now oversees global sales and marketing, in addition to all production activities.

“With Hugh’s business acumen and winemaking expertise, Jackson Family Wines will be poised for additional sustainable growth,” Banke said. “He’s been instrumental in both land and brand acquisitions over the past several years, as well as the ongoing improvement of our winemaking practices.”

Previous roles at Jackson were vice president for production and president of California production. Prior to joining Jackson Family Wines, Reimers had over 15 years of wine industry experience, including chief winemaker at publicly owned Constellation Wines.

Started in 1982 by wine pioneer, entrepreneur and philanthropist Jess Jackson, Jackson Family Wines is a family-owned company with a portfolio of thousands of acres of vineyards and 35 renowned wineries in Oregon, California, France, Chile, Italy, Australia and South Africa. JFW and its wineries are led by chairman & proprietor Barbara Banke and the Jackson family.

Wine Business Monthly ranked Jackson as the world’s No. 9 wine producer, with the equivalent 5.6 million 9-liter cases produced annually.
