Calistoga resort owners purchase town’s historic Depot

The Merchant family, owners of Indian Springs Resort in Calistoga, are purchasing the neighboring historic Calistoga Depot in a more than $3 million deal.

Located in downtown Calistoga, the 11,000-square-foot depot and six converted train cars house a variety of retail shops, owned by Napa resident Mark Navone.

The depot was built by Sam Brannan for the Napa Valley Railroad in 1868 and is the second oldest train depot in California.

The Merchants have plans for some repairs and upgrades to the property, said Re/Max Gold Associate Anthony Pereira, who represents Navone in the sale.

“The sale has historical ramifications for Calistoga, and could be one of the biggest commercial deals in Napa County for the year,” he said.

More details will be forthcoming after the sale is complete.

The Merchants also recently purchased the property across the street from their resort, which houses a hair and nail salon and two living units above the shop. The $1.4 million deal for the more than 4,000-square-foot property closed in early December.

The Palisades Deli, housed in the Depot, is also being purchased by local chef and long-time caterer Andy Wild. That deal is expected to close Feb. 1, 2017, he said.
