Davis named president of Wright Contracting

SANTA ROSA -- Mark Davis was promoted to president of general commercial builder Wright Contracting of Santa Rosa.

Mr. Davis has been with the company for 25 years, joining just after earning an undergraduate degree in construction management from California Polytechnic University San Luis Obispo. Most recently, he was vice president and operations manager.

Rick Grossman, who became president in 2005, returned to his previous post as Wright's chief estimator.

“We recognize the years ahead provide a rapidly changing and challenging marketplace in construction and in our communities," said owner Jay Wright. "Mark has outstanding qualifications to continue the Wright Contracting legacy as the elite general building contractor in the North Bay."

The company had three large projects postponed in the fourth quarter of last year until economic conditions improved.

"There is private work out there that is permitted and ready to build," Mr. Davis said.

Revenue for the 55-year-old company was $94 million last year.

Mr. Davis said that he plans to take advantage of the lower economy to focus the company around attention to project detail. During the construction boom, the company, subcontractors, architects and engineers were busy trying to move projects along.

"It's tough our there now, and we don't want to get caught up in being overly aggressive in pursuing new work in the bid market," he said. "We have been through slow times before and by being selective and making sure we take care of business we will get through this downturn as well."

Projects currently under construction include Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital's outpatient services center, Burbank Housing Corp.'s Rowan Court Apartments in Santa Rosa, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekahs' The Meadows of Napa Valley assisted-living facility in Napa, Sonoma State University' Tuscany Village student housing and Santa Rosa Junior College's student services center.
